Jim Reed

Jim ReedJames Pengelly Reed passed away August 17, 2014 in Sun City West, AZ. He was born August 18, 1933 in Youngstown, OH and was raised in Canfield, OH where he lived, worked and started a family until they moved to Arizona in 1973.

He attended the University of Louisville, KY and joined the NROTC until he graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering. He joined the Marine Corps directly after college graduation, where he remained for 3 years and then continued to serve for an additional 6 years in the Marine Corps Reserve. He was honorably discharged as a Captain.

After his military service he went to work for Goodyear Aerospace (now Lockheed Martin). He worked for them as an Electrical Engineer in both Akron, OH and in Goodyear, AZ. After 33 years of dedication to Lockheed Martin, he took an early retirement. But Jim soon found out that retirement just wasn’t for him and therefore re-entered the workforce doing solar testing for DSET Laboratories, where he worked for another 17 years until he retired again.

Jim loved poker and got together with friends every month to play. He also loved all kinds of sports, but his favorite was bowling. He bowled for 55 years until his illness kept him from it. He had even spent 2 years as the president of the Greater Phoenix Bowling Association. The only thing Jim loved more than bowling was his family. He and wife Ellen spent an amazing 56 years together and raised two children. They traveled many times together seeing the sights, and loved taking cruises.
Jim is predeceased by both of his parents, Matthew and Anna, and his brother Dick.

Jim is lovingly survived by his wife Ellen, daughter Lynn, Son James (Lynda), 4 grandchildren; Adam, Chris, Matthew and Samantha, and two great-granddaughters; Macee and Ayda, a sister Pat, a sister-in-law Phyllis, and three step-grandchildren. He was loved dearly by all who knew him. He was a quiet and loving man who will be greatly missed.

Arrangements under the direction of A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Bethany Chapel, Phoenix, AZ.
